About CUPE

Strength in numbers: A union is a group of workers who agree to support one another in order to improve their lives and communities. By being a part of CUPE, you’re joining Canada’s largest union, representing 715,000 workers across the country in health care – home care and community health care, universities, school boards, municipalities, social services – including community agencies – and airlines.

In Ontario we are 280,000+ members strong. We have a proven track record of taking on the Ford government and winning – to show our power as CUPE members together to win real gains as workers and for our communities.

You are the union: In CUPE, the members – that’s you – make the decisions. You and your co-workers will elect your own leadership, decide your priorities for negotiations, work together to make improvements, and vote on your contract. All with the consistent support of CUPE staff and elected leaders.

Who is CUPE Local 4891? Workers at Regeneration Community Services organized to join CUPE in February of 2007. Since then, there have been 5 rounds of collective bargaining and an active local democracy. Each round of bargaining provided monetary and non-monetary improvements to each respective agreement. Collective Bargaining and Pay Equity were carried out by the local union with the support of the CUPE National Representative and the CUPE Pay Equity Specialist.
